ABOUT THE PLAY

Daughter Mary-Rose has moved away to Toronto. Mom doesn’t want to waste money on expensive long distance calls so she’s recording all the news on tape to send to her. Dad can’t keep up, zany Gramma, with her Gaelic outbursts, is dealing with the out of control cat and they can’t seem to avoid all the other quirky residents of their tiny Nova Scotian community. This sweet, funny and whimsical play - featuring live music! - by Atlantic Canadian favourite, Mary-Colin Chisholm, is a celebration of story, family ties and a longing for home.

With a sold-out final week, rave reviews, and record attendance, our 2019 production of this Merritt Award nominated show was a big hit! We are delighted to be bringing it back in 2021 with the same creative team, some familiar faces, and exciting new elements for those who saw and loved the show last season.

REVIEWS

"If you are looking for a perfect Nova Scotian summertime show I recommend heading to Theatre Baddeck for Mary-Colin Chisholm’s play He’d Be Your Mother’s Father’s Cousin. It’s both hilarious and heartfelt and simultaneously extremely specific to Cape Breton and entirely universal. It's full of silliness and shenanigans and also has some really poignant moments, especially at the end, which I think will really pull at the heartstrings of anyone who is a parent, or anyone who has been a child leaving the nest." - Amanda Campbell, The Way I See It (Read the full review here).

"Warm as a cuppa - funny as high water pants!" - The Coast

“Wow! Just saw He’d Be at Theatre Baddeck and it was so good! Just a delight! Please, please, get yourself to Cape Breton to see this show! I laughed the whole way through and then cried at the end. Still feeling giddy and moved. Thank you! Congratulations to the whole cast. Standing O!!!” - Sam H.
